Premier, it’s time to Uncover your Cuts to Building Tasmania 

Tomorrow, Premier Rockliff and Eric Abetz are expected to finally Uncover their Cuts as they unveil the new organisational structure for Building Tasmania, and with it, the fate of hundreds of workers. 

250 full-time equivalent jobs are expected to be cut under the rushed restructure, with little transparency about the impact on the services Tasmanians rely on.

Since the Premier first announced the restructure in March, no one has been able to answer basic questions about what the new agency will actually do or how it will work – not even the Minister responsible. 

It’s clear the Liberal Government has spent months scrambling to reverse-engineer a shiny new organisational structure. 

Tasmanians expect more than a ‘trust us, everything will work better’. 

Premier Rockliff, Treasurer Abetz, and Minister Vincent must explain:

• How many positions will exist in Building Tasmania once the restructure is complete;
• Which roles and functions are being abolished, and why;
• How many of the 250 FTE reductions have already occurred;
• How many further positions will be cut;
• How many jobs are being transferred to other departments or agencies;
• Will any employees face forced redundancy; and 
• What impact the workforce reductions have on the delivery of housing, roads, and other major infrastructure.
