Premier must come clean on Scottish port costs

31 October 2024

Premier Jeremy Rockliff is trying to take Tasmanians for fools.

Yesterday - ignoring the fact the project is already $500 million over budget - he said he was sending the new Spirit to Scotland to "minimise the cost on Tasmanian taxpayers".

At the same time, he refused to disclose what that cost is.

How can anyone believe a word this minority Liberal government says about the Spirits, given everything that's happened?

Tasmania owns its own ports, which we could park the Spirits at for nothing. How can anyone believe the Premier's Scotland solution is in our best interests, when he won't even tell us how much it will cost?

This whole fiasco has been marred by secrecy and bad decisions. The Premier's refusal to come clean about his Scotland plan shows nothing has changed.

Josh Willie MP
Shadow Treasurer
