Premier must extinguish his coalition’s nuclear views

21 June 2024

While Eric Abetz welcoming discussions about introducing nuclear power to the nation’s energy mix may not have been a surprise, the Minister’s views could have serious implications for Tasmanian jobs and the economy.

Mr Abetz’ growing influence within the Tasmanian Liberal party is beginning to ruffle feathers on multiple fronts.

Make no mistake, Peter Dutton’s nuclear policy would have terrible consequences for Tasmania’s renewable energy future, threatening to jeopardise $25 billion of investment and thousands of safe, secure, well-paid jobs for Tasmanian workers.

Where does the Premier stand on Peter Dutton’s nuclear energy policy?

With Jacqui Lambie indicating she is open to supporting nuclear energy, the three Jacqui Lambie Network MPs in Tasmanian Parliament also need to come clean about whether they hold the same position as their federal leader.

If Premier Jeremy Rockliff really stands for Tasmanian jobs, he needs to stamp-out his coalition’s nuclear views.

Janie Finlay MP
Shadow Minister for Energy & Renewables
