Today, participants who were banned by TasRacing over racing fixing and cruelty allegations are welcome back on the track, despite TasRacing having made multiple attempts to exclude them.
It is a disgrace and a slap in the face to those honest industry participants we need to be backing.
It is important to acknowledge that, unlike the Director of Racing and two Ministers for Racing, TasRacing at least tried to keep them off the track. Ultimately it was never their job. The Director of Racing and Minister for Racing should have stood them down the moment they received the Murrihy Report, which outlined massive animal welfare breaches, team driving and race fixing.
When Anthony Bullock was facing serious allegations, the Director of Racing stood him down. The Director of Racing should have and still could stand the four individuals down pending the outcome of the stewards review.
The Liberals’ mismanagement of the Yole saga – in addition to the North-West track lies and deceit – is undermining the entire racing industry and the jobs and communities it supports.
The Minister should be doing all she can to build trust and faith in Tasmania’s racing codes to ensure they have a bright future.
Instead racing integrity is completely broken under Liberals' watch and the failures are, unfortunately, undermining confidence in entire industry.
