Resounding debate victory for Dean Winter

16 July 2025

Dean Winter has comprehensively defeated Jeremy Rockliff in today’s Leader’s debate.
The Labor Leader demonstrated he is miles ahead when it comes to understanding the way Tasmania works, and the issues that matter to Tasmanians.

He exposed the Liberals' hypocrisy on the budget and caught Mr Rockliff out in a lie on his attempts to sell off Tasmania's electricity assets.

The Premier tried to gaslight Tasmanians on his failure on the Spirits and his failure to build the port, but like Tasmanians, Mr Winter wasn't having any of it.

Jeremy Rockliff lied repeatedly throughout the debate, but Mr Winter was there to call him out every time.

Jeremy Rockliff still couldn't answer where the business case for his TasInsure sham was. He couldn't even remember to build a berth for the Spirits, why would anyone trust him to run an insurance company?

Mr Winter showed he has a plan to deliver the healthcare Tasmanians need, where they need it - outlining how a Labor Government will establish 10 TassieDoc clinics across the state because after 11 years of the Liberals, Tasmanians have waited long enough to see a regular doctor for free.

In contrast, Jeremy Rockliff looked tired and defeated.
11 years of the Liberals has put the state in record debt. They’ve overseen the biggest infrastructure stuff up in the state’s history with the Spirits. Health waiting lists have doubled and young people are leaving in record numbers.

It’s time for a Fresh Start for Tasmania, and the best way to deliver that is to vote Labor.

Shadow Treasurer
