The Firearms Bill tabled in Parliament today is a shameful backflip from the agreement Premier Rockliff made at National Cabinet, a betrayal of Tasmanians, and a flagrant disregard for community safety.

Premier Rockliff agreed that strong, decisive action was needed on gun law reform, including limits on the number of firearms any one individual can hold.

Police Minister Felix Ellis and Premier Rockliff have ignored the advice of Tasmania’s Police Commissioner, who clearly states the need for a cap on firearms. 

The grandfathering provisions added for reclassified firearms are proof Premier Rockliff is soft on guns. If you’re soft on guns, you’re soft on crime. 

As the Liberals kowtow to the gun lobby and worry about One Nation on the right flank, Tasmanians are witnessing Premier Rockliff put political interest above community safety. 

Premier Rockliff and the Liberals are advocating for unlimited guns in the community.   

Tasmania has a history of leading the nation when it comes to gun safety laws, but Premier Rockliff wants us to have the weakest laws in the country.
