Rockliff continues Liberal wipeout with another losing week

09 May 2025

After last weekend’s Tasmanian Liberal wipeout, Premier Jeremy Rockliff has done his level best to continue his party’s mess at a state level through a week filled by chaos and incompetence.

On Monday, Jeremy Rockliff admitted that he lied to Tasmanians about the Macquarie Point stadium’s $375 million cost cap, and also announced that they have delayed the closure of Ashley again.

On Tuesday, it was revealed Jeremy Rockliff is spending $130 million to reduce the spectator capacity at UTAS stadium.

On Wednesday, Jeremy Rockliff was forced to backflip on plans to move Heritage Tasmania’s Launceston office, and a Roy Morgan report showed Tasmania now has “clearly the lowest” business confidence in the country.

Last night, Leadership hopeful Eric Abetz admitted that he misled Tasmanians on radio that morning by trying to assert that the Premier didn’t break his promise – completely undermining his leader publicly.

And today, we learned that the biggest infrastructure stuff-up in Tasmania’s history has gotten even worse, with the Berth 3 construction blowout now sitting at $400 million.

You will not find a week that demonstrates the incompetence and chaos of Jeremy Rockliff’s minority government more than this one did.
