He's actively let Liberty Bell Bay close, costing more than 200 jobs, and now, with more than 500 jobs at Bell Bay Aluminium on the line as they work to secure a long-term power agreement, he's boasting his support for AI data factories over Tasmania’s major industrials because it “helps Tasmania’s bottom line”.*

After 13 years of incompetence and waste, Premier Rockliff is sacrificing the jobs and livelihoods of Northern Tasmanians to prop up his broken budget.

That admission should send a chill through every major industrial worker in Tasmania.

These are great jobs. They support families, contractors, local businesses, sports clubs, schools and whole communities. They're the backbone of the Northern economy.

This is cruel, short-term thinking.

One business paying a higher price for power shouldn't outweigh the value of thousands of good jobs. The real value is in keeping Tasmanians working, paying their mortgages and supporting their families.

Major industrials pay payroll tax, keep thousands of contractors and suppliers working, and put money back through local shops, clubs and communities.

Tasmania’s future is worth more than a quick cash grab to pay down the Liberals’ own debt.

Tasmania welcomes new investment, but it should add to our economy, not replace the industries, jobs and communities we already have here.

Tasmanians shouldn't be asked to choose between good industrial jobs and new investment. After 13 years in government, the Liberals should have built an energy system big enough for both.

The Rockliff Government has sacrificed Liberty Bell Bay. We won't let Bell Bay Aluminium be the next domino to fall.
