Rockliff must come clean on Spirits Scotland cost

23 June 2025

Now it’s been revealed that Spirit IV is set to sail from Leith within 10 days, Jeremy Rockliff owes it to Tasmanians to come clean on the cost of his expensive Scottish public relations solution.

According to TT-Line, Jeremy Rockliff had racked up a nearly $3 million bill for hiding Spirit IV in Scotland up to the end of February.

The ship has been mothballed there since December last year, meaning the bill is likely at least double that.

The Spirits fiasco is the defining feature of Jeremy Rockliff’s latest minority government.

The Liberals famously forgot to build a berth, costing the state over $400 million in infrastructure blowouts. It’s also cost our economy $500 million a year while the new ships aren’t operating.

It was one of the key reasons the Liberals lost the confidence of the parliament, and has lost the confidence of Tasmanians.

After 11 years of the Liberals, it’s time for a fresh start for the Spirits, and Jeremy Rockliff needs to come clean on the cost of hiding Spirit IV in Scotland today.
