Rockliff refuses to rule out Ferguson return

16 July 2025

Jeremy Rockliff is setting up to reinstate failed former Treasurer Michael Ferguson if re-elected this weekend – leaving Tasmanians concerned that one of the architects behind the Spirits fiasco could be making important government decisions again.

When asked if Ferguson would be brought back into cabinet if Rockliff is re-elected, he repeatedly refused to answer.

Reinstating the Minister responsible for overseeing a project that is more than half a billion dollars over budget and six years behind would be nothing short of a disaster for Tasmania’s future.

Tasmanians deserve better than a Premier who won’t rule out bringing back a minister whose failed oversight has already cost them dearly and embarrassed the state on the world stage.
Josh Willie MP
Shadow Treasurer
