Rockliff’s beer tax to add more red tape for business

16 March 2025

From 1 May, when a Tasmanian buys a 30 can block of beer or a carton of cider, they’ll pay an extra $6.50 in Rocky's beer tax.

Then, even if they take every single bottle or can to a recycling centre, they will get less than half of that back.  It is completely ridiculous.

If Jeremy Rockliff wants to have any credibility on red tape he needs to fix his beer tax before it starts.

He may as well dob it in to his new red tape portal.

Introduced in six weeks’ time, Tasmania’s scheme will be 50 per cent more expensive for consumers than South Australia’s, and will deliver what is effectively a beer tax every time a Tasmanian buys from the bottle shop.
