Rockliff’s “local content” farce further exposed

08 January 2025

Right to Information documents have revealed almost 60 per cent of the value of purchases included within TT-Line's component of the Liberal's so-called 'local content' target for the new spirits was spent outside the state.

Instead of just admitting the promise of $100 million in local content from Tasmanian businesses has been broken, the Liberals are trying to claim items like the main engines, which were built in Finland, are local.

They must think we are stupid.

TT-Line has only purchased just over $6 million from local businesses as part of the ships project. Their target was $20 million.

Depending on the value of a handful of contracts between RMC and Tasmanian suppliers like Liferaft Systems Australia and Scanmarine, Tasmanian businesses could make up less than 20 per cent of the Liberals' $100 million local content commitment.

The best thing Jeremy Rockliff could do is bring the Spirits home. The project is already a complete disaster and he's only making it worse. Let's finish the fit out here, keep them safe and get them ready for service.
