Students with a disability paying the price for Liberals' cuts

By Josh Willie MP - Labor Leader, Shadow Minister Education & Early Years

14 October 2026

Students with a disability paying the price for Liberals' cuts

“Every child in Tasmania deserves the very best start in life and learning,” Minister for Disability Services and Education, Jo Palmer said in June.

But her actions tell a different story.

Eric Abetz and the Liberals are cutting four specialist positions from the Inclusive Practice Team, which helps educators support Tasmanian students with a disability or complex learning needs to access an inclusive education.

Minister Palmer has failed to explain how Tasmanian students, schools, teachers, and families won’t be left worse off – that’s because she can’t.

Educators are today speaking out because they know children’s futures are at stake.

Tasmanian students with a disability or complex learning needs are being let down by a Government that would rather cut specialist support than properly back the educators working to give every child a fair go.
