Tasmanians don’t want Rockliff’s privatisation plan

01 May 2025

A new survey has shown Premier Jeremy Rockliff’s reckless push to privatise public assets to fix his budget mess is desperately unpopular among Tasmanians.

The 3P Advisory survey found Premier Rockliff’s desperate fire sale of public assets to be the least popular of the issues it tested, with a net negative sentiment score of -35.

It’s clear that Tasmanians value the public ownership of critical services, and don’t want to see them sold off to the highest bidder just because Premier Rockliff can’t manage the budget.

Tasmanians know that the State Liberals have completely wrecked the budget with 11 years of budget mismanagement, and now Premier Rockliff wants to sell off Tasmania’s assets to pay down his record debt, which will have disastrous consequences for the state.

They understand that privatisation leads to reduced services, increased costs, and means that profits would go to the private sector instead of funding for our schools and hospitals.

Premier Rockliff’s privatisation agenda stinks. Both Houses of the Tasmanian Parliament have condemned it, and Tasmanians have too.

Labor continues to fight tooth and nail against the privatisation of Tasmania’s public assets and is calling on Premier Rockliff to give up his desperate crusade.
