Time for TasPorts accountability at GBEs

02 December 2024

TasPorts’ involvement in the Spirits Fiasco will be front and centre at this week’s GBE hearings, with Tasmanians still in the dark about how things have gotten to this point.

So far, there has been no accountability from TasPorts despite heads rolling at TT-Line and former Treasurer Ferguson’s embarrassing demotion to the backbench.

TasPorts CEO Anthony Donald was paid a $48,000 bonus on top of his $413,000 salary and TasPorts executives were paid $190,000 in bonuses in total.

Despite being one of the GBEs involved in the biggest infrastructure stuff-up in Tasmanian history, Tasmanians will want to know why TasPorts senior managers and executives who are already very well paid by the taxpayers received large bonuses.

How much responsibility are they going to take this week for the organisation’s role in the Spirits debacle? How are they going to be part of the solution moving forward?

TasPorts is a very important government business for Tasmania and there needs to finally be some serious accountability this week.

Josh Willie MP
Shadow Treasurer
