Tone deaf Treasurer Guy Barnett has once again proven how out of touch he is by issuing an insulting and misleading media release titled “Tasmanians paying the least for power”.

The Treasurer’s comments come after the Joint Select Committee on Energy Matters heard that more than 50,000 Tasmanian households are suffering the consequences of energy poverty.

While price per unit of energy may be low, Tasmanian power bills are among the highest in the nation. It’s astonishing that the Treasurer proudly clings to a claim about pricing when so many Tasmanians are struggling to pay the bills.

To make matters worse, Premier Rockliff is planning to privatise energy assets which will only send bills higher.
