Vale Don Wing
We are deeply saddened by the passing of the Honourable Donald George Wing AM.
On behalf of Tasmanian Labor, we extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, former colleagues, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Don devoted his life to serving Launceston and Tasmania, leaving an indelible mark on both.
First elected to the Legislative Council in 1982, Don represented the people of Launceston and Paterson for 29 years, including six years as President, before retiring from Parliament in 2011.
During that time he served our Parliament with distinction, making a lasting contribution that embodied the dedication and responsibility of public service.
Following his retirement, Don remained deeply supportive of Legislative Council members, generously offering his time, knowledge, and advice.
Before entering Parliament, he served his community as an Alderman and Mayor, and throughout his life continued to contribute generously through community organisations, boards, and charitable causes.
A thoughtful and reflective person whose wisdom was always willingly shared, Don will be revered as a remarkable Tasmanian whose life and contributions will be remembered with great respect.
We acknowledge Don’s life and service with gratitude and extend our deepest sympathies to all mourning his loss.
Vale Don Wing.
