Yesterday, in response to important questions about a potential leasing deal for Spirit of Tasmania IV, the Liberals could only hide behind government spokespeople and flimsy claims of commercial in confidence.
Today, the Premier has no excuse for not coming clean to Tasmanians about the secretive leasing process.
- Who will be making the final decision on whether or not the ship is leased? Will it be TT-Line, the Premier, or the ambitious Minister Abetz?
- If the offer on the table to lease Spirit IV is accepted, where will the ship be operating? Does the Premier even know?
- Has a risk assessment been conducted, and what steps have been taken to protect Tasmania’s warranty for the ships?
Getting any information about this project from the Liberal government has been like drawing blood from a stone. It’s about time the Premier showed some transparency and respected Tasmanians.
Labor has been clear that the best thing to do would be to bring the Spirits home to Tasmania where they belong, so they will be safe, we can complete the local fit out and get them ready for service as soon as possible.
