A Dean Winter Labor Government will work with people with disability to deliver a Fresh Start under Labor.
Labor will make sure that people with disability are included in policy development and make sure they are prioritised in NDIS reform.
A Labor Government will:
- Ensure disability organisations are represented in the Premier’s Community Services Partnership Agreement
- Develop a Tasmanian Neurodiversity Strategy led by autistic and neurodivergent people and their families
- Work with the Commonwealth Government and people with disability, to develop and implement found
Why we need it
People with disability need to be part of the design for the programs and supports that they need.
As the Commonwealth Government seeks to reform the NDIS and works with the states to develop and implement foundational supports, Tasmanians with Disability need a Government that works with them on this process.
The details
A Dean Winter Labor Government will:
- Ensure disability organisations are represented in the Premier’s Community Services Partnership Agreement.
- Include organisations such as Disability Voices Tasmania, National Disability Services and the Regional Autistic Engagement Network in the broader review of the community services industry, to futureproof the provision of essential community services to Tasmanians living with disability.
- Develop and implement a Tasmanian Neurodiversity Strategy led by autistic people and their families. Labor would also implement the National Roadmap to Improve the Health and Mental Health of Autistic People across Tasmania’s health system.
- Work in partnership with the Commonwealth Government and autistic and neurodivergent people to co-design, develop and implement foundational supports in Tasmania.
- Advocate to the Commonwealth Government for fair pricing NDIS pricing arrangements that recognise the needs of people with disability in regional areas.
- Maintain the Premier’s Disability Advisory Council and Minister’s Disability Consultative Group.
- Implement the Disability Rights, Inclusion and Safeguarding Act 2024, including a Disability Inclusion Advisory Council and a Disability Commissioner.
- Prepare a Tasmanian Disability Inclusion Plan and support government entities to have Disability Inclusion Action Plans.
