Key Points
A Dean Winter Labor Government will help families with the cost of living and get kids active by providing $100 vouchers for all Tasmanian kids to play sport.
We’ll do this by repurposing the funding from the Liberals’ debt-funded dinner voucher program.
The vouchers for kids’ sport will:
- Help families with the cost of living
- Encourage kids to be active
- Support local sporting organisations
Why we need it
After 11 years of the Liberals, families are struggling with the cost of living and finding it more and more difficult to pay for things like their kids’ sport.
Meanwhile, the Liberals are spending $10 million on tourism vouchers to try to make amends for the mess they made of the Spirits of Tasmania project.
Families are having to make difficult choices about what to cut from their budgets, and this ensures that kids don’t go without.
Labor’s plan is good for kids and a fresh start for cost-of-living for families.
“A Dean Winter Labor Government will always prioritise the health and wellbeing of Tasmania’s children.”
The details
A Dean Winter Labor Government will provide vouchers for kids sport for all students aged 5-18 in Tasmania during the 2026 school year.
Each student will receive one $100 voucher.
Families will be able to access sports vouchers online in the same way the existing Ticket to Play program works. That program will be unaffected by this announcement and will continue to be available for eligible children. Under a Dean Winter Labor Government, these children will have even more funds available to spend on playing a sport they love – perhaps giving them an opportunity to try a different sport that they may otherwise not have the opportunity to try.
We will pay for the policy by repurposing the Liberals’ $10 million debt-funded dinner vouchers.
