A Dean Winter Labor Government will deliver support for Tasmania’s largest emergency food relief provider, helping to ensure more Tasmanians don’t go without a meal.
Labor will provide $5.5 million in additional funding for Loaves and Fishes Tasmania over the next five years.
A Labor Government will:
- Reduce food insecurity
- Help Tasmanians doing it tough
- Deliver a fresh start on cost of living
Why we need it
After 11 years of the Liberals, emergency food providers are under increasing pressure to meet the rising needs of Tasmanians doing it tough.
One in five people are facing food insecurity in Tasmania. Thousands of Tasmanians don't know where their next meal is coming from, and children are turning up to school hungry.
When people can’t access nutritious food, the pressure doesn’t stop at the kitchen table – it flows through to hospitals, schools and community services.
The details
A Dean Winter Labor Government will commit $1 million per year over five years to Loaves and Fishes Tasmania.
This investment will allow Loaves and Fishes Tasmania to continue its essential work in supporting around 16,000 vulnerable Tasmanians each week.
Labor will also provide a $500, 000 capital contribution to develop Loaves and Fishes Tasmania’s kitchen facilities in Devonport.
This will see the organisation's vital school lunch program expanded into 15 additional local schools, making sure more Tasmanian children have access to a good meal and are ready to learn.
“A Fresh Start under Labor means supporting the organisations delivering real, practical help on the ground – helping Tasmanians not just to get by but get ahead.” |
