Brian Mitchell MP
Member for Lyons
Brian Mitchell is Labor’s Member for Lyons in Tasmania.
As someone who lives, works and raises a family in Lyons, Brian is deeply invested in making regional Tasmania as good as it can be.
Brian is a down-to-earth character – his first job was as a teenage restaurant manager flipping burgers at Hungry Jacks – and he retains a sharp wit and discerning eye forged working as a print journalist.
Since being elected in 2016 and his re-election in 2019, Brian has passionately sought to ‘Rebuild our Regions’ by advocating for services for regional Tasmania. Brian has seen first hand how regional communities are hollowed out when government services and businesses leave towns. Brian is working hard to reverse the trend and get services and staff back into our regional centres.
Lyons is a diverse electorate with people spread across half of the state and Brian is committed to providing health care, banking, and Centrelink to all Lyons residents, regardless of their postcode.
Brian wholeheartedly supports Medicare and our public health system, and believes we must protect and improve it. Too many Tasmanians wait too long for treatment, or are forced to travel too far to get the care they need.
Brian is a keen volunteer in the community – he’s often spotted working behind the till at local footy matches – and has been a tireless campaigner for local businesses in Lyons.
Brian is particularly passionate about agricultural issues and serves as Deputy Chair of the Agriculture and Water Resources committee.
Brian always puts his community first, and he’s always there to fight for the people of Lyons.
