Richard Dowling

Senate Candidate

Richard Dowling

Senate Candidate

Richard grew up on Hobart’s eastern shore, where his parents had jobs in the seafood industry, government services and, for a time, ran their own bookshop.  He enjoyed the benefits of Tasmania’s public school system and studied economics at UTAS while completing a cadetship at the State Treasury.  This grounding saw him become Chief Economist of the TCCI and Senior Economic Adviser to a Labor Premier.

Like many young Tasmanians, Richard and his wife decided to explore the world.  He went on to hold senior positions in policy and economics with some of the world’s most innovative technology, clean energy and healthcare companies.

These roles gave him the opportunity to work across the United Kingdom, Europe, United States and the Asia Pacific, and witness different approaches to issues that matter most to Tasmanians – jobs, health and education. His time working away from the island gave him perspective on what is uniquely special about Tasmania, along with ideas for improvement.  Richard also completed his MBA in the United Kingdom, with a dissertation on clean energy innovation.

Richard lives in Hobart and is fortunate to have deep family connections across the State. He is honoured by the opportunity to use his skills and experience to help improve the lives of Tasmanians and be a strong voice for his State.
