Key Points
A Dean Winter Labor Government will double the funding available to upgrade or build new before and after school hours care facilities.
We will bring this funding forward to deliver as many upgrades as possible in the next two years.
Labor will:
- Provide safe, fun and educational care for primary school kids
- Give more parents more flexibility in the hours they work to help pay their bills
- Immediately commence the identification of priority locations and determine service delivery models for each site
Why we need it
Families are struggling with the cost of living and parents are having to give up extra hours at work because of a lack of before and after school care.
- After 11 years, the Liberals have done nothing to help families access more outside school hours care
- Previous Liberal election promises have not been delivered
- That’s why we need a fresh start for working parents
“Access to childcare shouldn’t be a barrier for families trying to pay their bills.”

There are 50 Tasmanian schools with clear demand for new or expanded before and after school care services.
We will partner with service providers to immediately commence the identification of priority locations, and to determine service delivery models for each site.
